Literature Review for your PhD: how to search & where to publish

How to keep track of the relevant scientific literature for your dissertation? The Medical Library offers this 2-session workshop on how to develop a systematic search for a proper overview of the published literature and an optimal basis for e-mail alerts.
In addition, you will learn about the opportunities and pitfalls in selecting a journal for publication and the advantages of a researcher profile.

Prior knowledge: at least PubMed Basics level or intermediate to advanced search skills

  • Content: you will be working on your own topic and issues such as
    • How to adjust your research question to a search question
    • How to select databases and other sources
    • How to perform and optimize a systematic literature search
    • How to keep track of recent literature and create alerts
    • How to select a journal for publication
    • What are the advantages of publishing in Open Access
    • Which scientific metrics and tools may help increase your visibility as a researcher
  • Learning goals: After completion of the course the particpants should be
    • able to make a head start with an overview of existing research literature
    • more effective in finding literature due to improved search skills
    • more efficient in journal selection and in evaluating research impact including Open Access
  • Duration: 2 sessions of 2 hours.
