The University Library subscribes to a database especially suited for corporate governance research. BoardEx provides comprehensive quantitative information on e.g. board composition, compensation and networks. The data can be accessed through the WRDS data platform and is only available for Europe and the UK. The database Eikon can provide a useful addition for the study of corporate governance, with dozens variables on this subject.
Moreover, Eikon is the only database available at this university containing variables for the social and environmental policy of publicly listed firms worldwide.
This support session deals with the following key considerations when using BoardEx and Eikon data:
- getting access;
- content of Eikon and BoardEx & limitations of the data;
- how the data is structured;
- defining your dataset and filtering;
- a basic workflow to get the right variables in your dataset;
- combining datasets.
If you plan to use BoardEx, make sure to request a WRDS account (https://wrds-www.wharton.upenn.edu/register/). Students choose a 'Masters' account. See for more information the Library Guide Business & Economics (https://libguides.ru.nl/BE)
The workshop will take place through Zoom. Duration: up to 1 hour. Language spoken: English.
