Python for text analysis: 2-day introductory workshop
This workshop is a two-day event, scheduled on Monday 2 december and Tuesday 3 december from 10:00-13:00.
Do you want to get started with Python? Are you interested in adding text processing and text mining steps into your research workflow?
This 6-hour introductory Python workshop is meant as both a general-purpose introduction to this programming language, and an introduction to handling textual data in Python. No previous experience with Python is necessary.
You will get acquainted with the basic functionalities and characteristics of Python, such as data types, functions and methods, working with textual data and lists, if-statements, conditionals, for-loops, working with files, importing libraries, writing your own functions, and more. Along the way, you will also be introduced to more specific text analysis steps. As a case study for this introduction to Python, we will take a closer look at a sentiment analysis script.
After this workshop, you will be ready to further develop your programming skills individually, and will be able to write and automate simple text processing steps that can be part of a larger workflow.
The workshop will be held in English.
