Efficient and complete literature searches for researchers, on campus, EOS 01.740
A practical workshop on developing strong search strategies and finding relevant academic literature - whether you're starting your PhD or working on a research project.
What will we cover?
- Databases and other sources to find academic literature.
- Building a search strategy using relevant search terms and search operators.
- Other search approaches like citation search.
At the end of the workshop you will be able to apply different search strategies and techniques in databases relevant for your topic.
- Researchers and (external) PhD candidates of the Nijmegen School of Management.
- Especially useful if you are planning or starting a literature review.
- Counts as 4 hours in your Training and Supervision Plan (2 hours preparation + 2 hours attendance), see TPS template "Method related training".
How can you prepare for the workshop?
- Search for academic literature on your research topic.
- Keep track of your search process: record your search activities, including search terms, search operators, filters, databases used, and results.
- Optional: Have a look at the checklist for reporting literature searches in systematic reviews for inspiration.
During the session, we'll discuss what you've experienced and how this relates to effective searching strategies.
This is the first in a series of three workshops on information skills for researchers. We recommend joining also the other sessions to strengthen your skills.
